Singapore Ranked as World’s Best Place to Do Business, Again.

In blog on September 26, 2007 at 8:37 pm

SINGAPORE : Singapore has been named the easiest place in the world to do business for the second year running.

The annual rankings were released in the ‘Doing Business 2008’ report by the World Bank. A total of 178 places were surveyed for the report.

Singapore has kept its top spot, followed by New Zealand, the United States and Hong Kong.

“This Doing Business report by the World Bank is meant for foreign investors and enterprises who are interested to enter these countries, and invest and do business in these countries. Singapore, by being number one, shows that it is number one destination for businesses to come here,” said Ryan Ang, Liaison Officer, World Bank Group Office.

The rankings are based on 10 indicators that track time and cost to meet government requirements in business start-up, operation, trade, taxation and closure.

Singapore outshone the rest with its efficient business processes, many of which are online. The availability of one-stop shops also spells out low-cost and significant time savings for businesses.

Other factors in its favour include the secure credit environment and high level of protection for investors. But Singapore also continues to improve its business processes.

Ang said: “The one minor reform that we did was the number of days or number of procedures to start a business. Singapore reduced that from 6 to 5 from 2006 to this year, so that is a significant improvement for Singapore.”

The ‘Doing Business’ report also studied efforts by economies to simplify their business regulation.

Egypt emerged as the economy which had made the most progress in this area. China also stood out – with its new private property rights and a new bankruptcy law.

Alright, I am about to embark on the most ambitious plan I ever had, to change myself completely.

Operation CHANGE ME will consist of:

  • Eating Healthy
  • Going fit
  • Being Hardworking
  • Being more into Business
  • Tracking my daily spendings and reducing them
  • My lifestyle itself
  • Doing things I like and not let anyone affect it, Photography etc

And one more thing, may my family, my cousins and friends remind me of this whole operation thingy in case I veer off course, thanks!

I will not remove the above banner until my goal is met.

Well, basically, after many weeks of waking up at around 9-10am daily, it was particularly hard to get out of bed at 7 today. The moment I stepped out of my bed it started to rain heavily. It’s like a storm, it made me don’t want to go school at all, but I must.

The Lonely Nights.

In blog on September 22, 2007 at 1:24 am

Whenever I hear people saying that living in a huge house and having your own room is great, I can’t help to disagree, but to only a certain extent. Sometimes, memories of my old house appeared in my mind suddenly. I missed the times we had when we are in Bishan, all of us within 1000 square feet of land. Being so close together, we feel so secured and warm.

Late at night, even when I am alone, I can feel my loved one near me and feel the warmth. And when I slept with my siblings, I feel secured and cozy. I had no problem sleeping at all, regardless of the time. My Father is snoring, my mother wakes up at night sometime to close the window if it rains, my Brother was perhaps still playing computer while my Sister is asleep.

But now?

At 1 or 2 am, everyone’s sleeping in their own room. I don’t hear snores, I don’t feel anyone around me nor the warmth I used to have. Nothing else but the air-condition and the air cleaner. A room full of darkness. Nothing else but pure air. Sometimes, It is just hard to go through. But thank god for The Simpsons(too bad no one watches it in Singapore), which I had gone through hundreds of night with it.

How I wished all my family members slept within one huge room.
