Seems like the “Cool Dome” design(Singapore Sports Hub consortium) wins the the bid for the Singapore Sport Hubs project.
Was hoping for the Horse Shoe design to win, but oh well..
Whatever it is, it’s going to be another new icon for Singapore. What I read from Straits Time is that it will feature:
- A retractable roof that has an outer membrane that can display different lighting and colour schemes at night
- When fully covered, the roof acts like a giant IMAX screen.
- “Premier Park” proposal involves year-round activities to keep the Sports Hub abuzz, such as an ASEAN Super league football tournament.
- Indoor go-karting area, White-water Rafting facilities and a water leisure park will be built.
- The world’s thinnest movable roof, at its widest, it will be 315m, the widest in the world.
Seating capacity will still be at 55,000. It’s designed by J.Parrish, the architect who designed Munich’s Allianz Arena and Beijing’s “Bird Nest” stadium. The “Cool Dome” stadium will be completed by 2011, built at a cost of around S$1.2billion.
